2021년 여름소식

주님 안에 평안하시길 기도합니다!

1년 반이 지나도 전세계 모든 정부와 언론은 여전히 코로나바이러스 소식을 매일같이 필두로 쏟아내고 있군요. 팬데믹이 아무리 계속해서 삶에 큰 타격을 주고 (합리적 조심성을 넘어서) 두려움이 우리 생각을 지배하려고 하지만 그렇다고 결코 이런 문제가 우리 삶의 중심이 되도록 허락할 수는 없는 노릇입니다. 그래서 매일 예수님이 제 삶의 중심이신지 먼저 더 살피게 되고, 예수님만이 모든 나라들의 왕이신 것을 스스로 상기시키고 선포하곤 합니다! 주님께서 우리 삶의 중심에 좌정하실 때만이 다른 모든 것들도 제자리를 찾게되는 것이지요.

한편, 이 팬데믹으로 인해 그 진행 속도가 더욱 가속화된 이 보다 훨씬 더 심각하고 거대한 문제가 있는데요. 여러분들이 이미 사회 전반에서 크고 작게 어느 정도 느껴오신 것입니다. 미국을 중심으로 한 서구 (기독교) 문명 사회의 도덕성의 몰락, 이미 티핑포인트를 넘어선 사회 전반에 걸친 양극화, 이로 인해 예견되어 있는 쓰나미와 같이 몰려 올 문명의 몰락과 국제 질서의 격변… 두 구절로 요약하자면, “서구 문명의 쇠퇴”와 “국제 질서의 격변”입니다. 한국은 이 격변의 변방에 그대로 노출되어 있어서 모든 타격을 그대로 받는 자리에 있지요. 이번 여름소식지는 가족과 사역 소식을 1편에서 먼저 전해드리고, 곧 이어 2편에서 팬데믹보다 더 심각한 이 거대한 도전과 이에 대응해 우리가 반드시 통과해야지만 하는 “근원적 변화 (Deep Change)”에 대하여 역사적 고찰과 합리적 분석을 바탕으로 여러분들과 나누고자 합니다. 결론적으로, 현 시점에서 앞으로 우리가 도저히 감당하지 못할, 하지만 지불하게 될 댓가는 무엇이며, 이에 대한 해결책은 과연 있는 것인지 살펴보겠습니다.

It’s Christmas time!

Being far apart in 3 different continents, but still together in the love of God, we as a family send you a sincere Christmas greetings!

Looking back the year of 2020, most our times we have been limited, prevented, not allowed in many ways in our lives. Yet, surprisingly we have been able to do many other things we would’ve not done otherwise in our simplified lives.

Personally I have been able to find more time to reflect the true meaning of Christmas as I was decorating the Christmas tree with lights and ornaments. I felt like I was doing it only for Jesus not anyone else as if I was preparing a birthday party for Him like I used to for my three children! Truly Jesus is the beginning of and the reason for Christmas celebration!

At first, 2020 appeared to be just lost times but gradually I have been able to realize there are many reasons to be grateful! Without a doubt, the love and the comfort of God have always been there in my life, more than enough. Also, my heart has grown to appreciate many little, yet precious blessings I used to take for granted. Moreover, my faith in trusting the Lord has become firmer in humility and it’s a great gain of treasure!

We are also grateful to our God for you, and as a family we would like to say to you that we thank you, miss you and cheer you with all our hearts.

May this Christmas season bring you closer to our God whose love endures forever, and may you find many reasons to be grateful to Him!

안녕하세요?

2020년 크리스마스 시즌을 맞이하여 저희 가족이 마음을 모아 함께 이 자리를 빌어 인사드립니다.

그 어느 해보다 많이 속상했던 올 한 해… 많이 제한 받았고 제대로 다니지 못하고 만나지 못했으며 어울리지 못하고 많이 포기해야 했던 2020년이었습니다.

참으로 아이러니하게도 코로나 사태로 인해 할 수 없는 것들이 많아진 반면, 단조로워진 삶이다보니 예년 같았다면 엄청 바빴을 이 때에 오히려 차분하게 진정한 크리스마스의 의미를 더 되새기어 보게 되고, 크리스마스의 시작이자 주인공이신 예수님의 사랑이 그 어느 때보다 더 마음에 와 닿는 축복을 누리게 됩니다. 

덕분에 코로나 사태로 인해 잃어버린 것만 같은 2020년이라고 여겨 왔었는데 사실은 얻은 것도 꽤 많았던 일 년이었다는 것을 깨닫게 됩니다. 하나님의 사랑도 부족함없이 늘 저의 삶에 충분했습니다. 평소라면 너무도 당연히 여겼던 작은 것들에 더 감사한 마음이 생겼습니다. 무엇보다 하나님을 더 의지하게 되는 겸손한 믿음이 내 마음 속에 자리 잡게 되었습니다!

상황에 상관없이 올해도 기쁨으로 감사할 수 있어서 더 감사한 2020년 크리스마스를 맞이하여, 비록 몸으로는 3개국에 떨어져 있는 저희 가족이지만 그 어느 때보다 더 하나된 마음과 영혼을 담아 우리의 사랑하는 가족들, 친구들, 동역자들에게 올 한 해도 많이 보고 싶었고 많이 감사했고 많이 응원한다고 말 해 주고 싶습니다. 그리고 앞으로도 어떠한 상황 가운데에서도  넘치는 하나님의 사랑과 평안을 힘 입어 거뜬히 이겨내는 삶을 살아 가시기를 기도 드립니다. 사랑합니다.

2019년 여름소식

Workshop On Strategic Missions

이번 여름에 실행할 중요한 프로젝트입니다. 8월에 인도에서 진행할 인도인 사역자들을 위한 선교 훈련과정(WOSM)인데요, 현지의 필요와 상황에 맞춰 몇 번 주요 설계변경을 했습니다. 그래서 단기간에 집중할 수 있는 3주짜리 웍샵으로 진행합니다. 기도 부탁드립니다!

인도는 최근 몇 년간 근본주의 힌두 정부로 인해 외국인 선교사의 입국 및 체류가 점점 어려워지는 상황이어서 현지인 사역자들이 훈련을 받아 직접 사역을 배가하는 것이 어느 때보다 중요한 시기입니다. 특히, 북부지역과 히말라야 지역은 전 세계에서 미전도 종족들이 가장 밀집되어(1억 명) 있는 지역이며 악령의 활동이 매우 왕성한 반면 기독교인과 선교사는 거의 전무한 곳입니다. 1792년 윌리엄 케리가 최초의 개신교 선교사로 인도에서 사역을 시작한 지 227년 지난 오늘도 이 지역은 아직도 전 세계에서 가장 우선적인 7개 선교지 중의 하나로 남아 있어서 이곳에서 공격적으로 사역을 확장하는 것은 하나님 나라를 위한 매우 전략적인 필요이지요!

세계 곳곳에 있는 사랑하는 형제 자매님들께,

2018년 한해는 저희에게 여러모로 주님의 승리가 있는 해였습니다. 하늘에 계신 아버지의 은혜 덕입니다. 여러분의 기도와 후원이 있었기에 이 모든 것이 가능했었고, 그래서 이를 어찌 다 감사드려야 할지 모르겠습니다. 일단 주님의 말씀으로 격려 전해 드리고 싶네요. “또 누구든지 제자의 이름으로 이 작은 자 중 하나에게 냉수 한 그릇이라도 주는 자는 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 그 사람이 결단코 상을 잃지 아니하리라 하시니라” – 예수님 (마태복음 10:42)

가족 이야기

이번 성탄절은 저희 아이들 중 유강이와 혜진이 둘 다 없이 지내는 첫 번째 성탄절입니다. 얘네들이 너무 보고 싶지만, 다들 주님 안에서 잘 지내주어서 감사하고, 유진이는 아직 저희가 데리고 있어서 감사합니다!

Greetings from Ireland to friends and families around the globe! 

I pray that this update finds you well wherever you are and you would find peace and strength in Christ for your everyday life. I would like to update you on our family and ministries for college students and the homeless and more for the last several months. First of all, I want you to know that all this has been possible because of your prayers and support. Thank you so much! Please read on and pray with us continually. 

The Celtic Heroes that Saved Europe

Despite the fact that the most of the Irish Catholics, which makes about 90% of the population, is said to be only nominal Christians, and despite the fact that this country became the first to legalize same-sex marriage by popular vote (not by the Parliament, nor by the Court) this year, Europe could have fallen into darkness during the long-ago Middle Age and not risen from their spiritual, cultural downfall, if it weren’t for these Irish people.  It was a historic movement started in the 6th century that saved the European Civilization by the Celtic Irish missionaries who brought the gospel back to the Britain and to western Europe.

Family and Homeschool

Probably some of you wanted to hear more about our family than all those ministry stuff.  Thank you!  So, here we go!

We purchased a car in May for which we had asked you to pray and help. Thank you, again, for all your prayers and support!  It’s a 2006 Hyundai Trajet in a good condition.  We got it at €2,100 after three trips to Dublin.  It took me a while even to do some basic research on different car models and prices, because the models and even the vehicle categories are different here and I initially didn’t even know what I could buy for my family with the given budget.  But, eventually everything boiled down to two models only – Renault Scenic and Hyundai Traget.
