The Celtic Heroes that Saved Europe

Despite the fact that the most of the Irish Catholics, which makes about 90% of the population, is said to be only nominal Christians, and despite the fact that this country became the first to legalize same-sex marriage by popular vote (not by the Parliament, nor by the Court) this year, Europe could have fallen into darkness during the long-ago Middle Age and not risen from their spiritual, cultural downfall, if it weren’t for these Irish people.  It was a historic movement started in the 6th century that saved the European Civilization by the Celtic Irish missionaries who brought the gospel back to the Britain and to western Europe.

Probably some of you wanted to hear more about our family than all those ministry stuff.  Thank you!  So, here we go!

We purchased a car in May for which we had asked you to pray and help. Thank you, again, for all your prayers and support!  It’s a 2006 Hyundai Trajet in a good condition.  We got it at €2,100 after three trips to Dublin.  It took me a while even to do some basic research on different car models and prices, because the models and even the vehicle categories are different here and I initially didn’t even know what I could buy for my family with the given budget.  But, eventually everything boiled down to two models only – Renault Scenic and Hyundai Traget.

Just recently I had another meeting with the owners of the camp center where we are going to run the Heroes SOSM (School Of Strategic Missions) and DTS (Discipleship Training School) side by side at YWAM Sligo next April.  They are a wonderful couple who’ve been serving the Lord in a few different countries, and now running this ministry called the West of Ireland.  The ministry’s camp center is ideally built and situated for YWAM training schools with enough facilities to accommodate up to 150 people, only 10 minutes outside Sligo town. In the spring time, we can use the entire facilities, because there won’t be any camps running at the center.

아일랜드 인구의 약 90%가 카톨릭 신자들이지만 그 대다수가 살아계신 예수님과의 인격적 관계가 없는 명목상의 신자들이고, 또 이 나라는 올해 5월 세계 최초로 [국회의 입법절차나 법원의 판결이 아니라] 국민투표를 통해 동성결혼을 합법화한 나라입니다만, 한때 아일랜드가 아니었으면 영국을 포함한 유럽대륙은 중세를 지나면서 완전히 문화적으로, 영적으로 황폐케 된 상태에서 회복하지 못하고 그대로 몰락할 뻔했었습니다. 바로 6세기부터 시작하여 아일랜드의 켈트족 선교사들이 먼저 영국을 그리고 서유럽 지역에 수도원을 세우고 복음을 다시 전파하여 유럽문명을 구한 역사적 사건입니다.

아마도 어떤 분들은 위에 장황하게 써놓은 이야기들 보다 저희 가족 이야기를 더 듣고 싶으셨을 텐데요…  드디어 말씀드립니다!

기도와 후원을 부탁드렸었던 자동차는 지난 5월에 잘 구입했습니다. 함께 도와주셔서 정말 다시 한번 감사드리고요. 상태 좋은 2006년형 현대 트라젯입니다. 더블린을 세차례 오가며 2100유로에 구입해서 아주 잘 쓰고 있습니다. 이쪽 세상은 밖에 돌아다니는 차종부터가 워낙에 많이 달라서 차종과 가격을 알아보는 것 자체에도 시간이 많이 들었습니다. 주님께서 (여러분들을 통해) 주신 예산으로 필요한 차를 살펴보니 10년 된 르노 씨닉과 현대 트라젯 두가지 정도로 딱 좁혀지더군요.

추석은 다들 잘 보내셨는지요? 조금 소식이 늦었습니다. 여러분들 각자 처하신 상황가운데 모두 주님의 축복과 감사함이 풍성한 가을을 맞으시길 기도합니다.

며칠 전 저는 내년 4월에 Heroes SOSM(School Of Strategic Missions)을 열 장소에 다시 찾아가 관련 회의를 가졌습니다. West of Ireland라고 하는 사역에서 운영하는 캠프 쎈터인데, YWAM 훈련학교를 두개 이상 동시에 운영하기에 적절한 환경을 갖추고 있습니다. 위치도 슬라이고 타운에서부터 외곽으로 자동차로 10분 거리에 있는데다가, 봄에는 그곳에서 진행되는 다른 캠프가 없기때문에 저희가 시설 전체를 사용할 수 있습니다.
